As the old saying goes -- necessity is the mother of invention.
I changed the saying a bit to read -- necessity is the mother of improvising.
I discovered that if I put a cutting mat on my pressing table which is fairly firm and higher than my cutting table by about 3 inches that I could do some cutting with the rotary cutter. I had to limit the size and amount of cutting to match my out of sync eyes. But I could do a little bit of cutting.
On this quilt I had sewn the last two side borders in place before the right eye surgery. I had the top and bottom border to sew in place. These were cut already. I just had to piece the borders together to get the right size. With the top and bottom borders at the correct size I put these in place and did the sewing and pressing.
I then did the piecing for the binding and was able to stitch that in place. Now, will I be able to see well enough to do the hand stitching? That is the question of the day. I will check into that tomorrow.
This is the quilt with the borders and binding in place.
This isn't my best work but I made it to be a play quilt, to be used and used for the play of little girls. Which I know nothing about since I have only boys.
And speaking of handwork, I tried to pick up my embroidery for a second time with no luck. At least at that moment in time my eyes were way out of sync. I will keep trying.
Love your quilt. Great fabric combination.
